Responsive web design (RWD for short) isn’t exactly the ‘new kid on block’, it has been around for quite some time now but there are still websites out there that aren’t responsive.

Why should you be responsive?

Studies have shown that people are more likely to browse on their portable devices rather than their desktops for the simple fact that it is more convenient (I bet some of you are reading this on your mobile phones).

With the majority of device usage and internet usage now coming from mobile phones it is no surprise that responsive sites are constantly in demand.

According to some stats, 57% of users say they will not recommend a business if they have a poorly designed mobile site. No longer is the look of a website the most important thing to think about when designing a responsive website, it is the user experience that needs to be the high priority.

Think about it, no more is the click of a mouse the only concept to think about when designing a website. With touch-screen technology taking over your ‘average desktop’, we are no longer using an arrow to select a button or link on a screen, instead we are using our fingers meaning the surface area needs to be much bigger. For a responsive website this is relatively easy to use but for those websites who haven’t got a responsive design, just selecting a button or link can be pretty annoying (anyone with long nails knows what we are talking about!).

Being responsive makes SEO campaigns so much easier!

Ok so you may have a desktop website plus a mobile site which is all good, but when it comes to managing your SEO campaigns having two separate sites mean a campaign needs to be done for each site which can be very time consuming.

The great thing about have a responsive website is that all your SEO campaigns can be done on one site making it a lot easier to manage.

It’s not just users who likes responsive either, Google loves it!

Due to some of the Google algorithm updates, websites who do not have a responsive website design and are not mobile friendly can now be penalized and have their search rankings affecting.

Responsive design is Google’s recommended design pattern, why? Because a responsive website always uses the same URL address and the same coding meaning all the content is exactly the same but is adjustable for different screen sizes. This is perfect for when people are sharing content.

We shared a blog on our social media from Heidi Cohen who uses a responsive website. Opened on a desktop the blog appeared like this:

Should we all be responsive?

Our opinion? YES!

Having a responsive designed website makes life so much easier, it is easier to manage, less time consuming, great for Google rankings and most importantly it is user friendly!
